Marian Jakubik at work

Liw Castle

Model of Liw Castle

My uncle, Marian Jakubik, renowned Polish artist, taught me most of what I know about painting - from stretching and priming a canvas to applying glazes and even cleaning my brushes. He passed away peacefully in Wengrow, Poland on September 8, 2004, at the age of 78 and will be missed, not just by me, but by his immediate family, his friends, his town, and by the entire Polish art community. He continues to be an inspiration to me and everyone that he knew.

His accomplishments include being a local war hero in the Polish Underground during WWII; the restoration of hundreds of priceless paintings that were damaged during the war; the building of a Museum Annex at the Liw Castle as well as the care, restoration and management of the castle and museum; being a member of the the local tourism bureau in his area; and most importantly, becoming a recognized and honored artist in his own right in his later years.

His works are painted in a realistic style with extreme attention to detail and color. He was able to capture the heart of the Polish countryside; the way the peasants of past eras lived, worked and played; the beauty of the flowers, forests, ponds and streams; the Liw Castle. There was simply no end to his creativity and skill.

On the linked page I am honored to present some examples of his art. Enjoy this trip into Poland.
